Frutta martorana.
Veniva tradizionalmente preparata nelle celebrazioni della Festa dei Morti. Deve il suo nome alla Chiesa di Santa Maria dell’Ammiraglio o della Martorana, eretta nel 1143 da Giorgio d’Antiochia, ammiraglio del re Normanno Ruggero II, nei pressi del vicino monastero benedettino, fondato dalla nobildonna Eloisa Martorana nel 1194, da cui prese il nome, e di quello di Santa Caterina nel centro storico di Palermo dove le suore lo preparavano e lo vendevano fino alla metà del 1900.
